Si Monay The Grey Tiger Cat

This short story is based on real life.

The Cat Who Found Home

I was walking from school to home. I strayed kitten caught my attention. She had varying grey hair striped like of a tiger. "Meow," as if asking for help. I meowed back.

The kitten started to follow me as if desperately hungry for food. Maybe, she knew that my family had cats at home. Maybe, she could smell it that I loved cats. I allowed the kitten to follow me. It was about a five-minute walk for a pair of tiny kiddie legs. But for the kitten, as if she did not mind walking that long, meowing all the time until we reached home.

I fed her that day and she never left. She found a new home. I named her Monay – after a popular bread. Monay grew up healthy and feisty.

One day, Monay could not be found. The next day, I was hearing asynchronous tiny meows. I followed the sound, found a box. And there she was, with three little kittens. I named the three little kittens Pepsi, Sarsi and Mirinda – named after the famous soda or softdrinks as we call it.

Pepsi was white with light orange, dark and light grey hair. Mirinda had orange stripes. Its tail cropped short and its end angled. Sarsi was like her mother – grey striped.

As Monay grew older, she became sickly. One time, she meowed sadly at me as if she was saying goodbye.

Monay walked away. She left home for good. It was her time to die and she didn't want to die at home. Cats do that. They leave home to die alone.
